Container unloading is the toughest job on the dock. Of the roughly 200 warehouses we’ve toured, almost none have their own personnel do it. The work is too exhausting and the injury rate is too high, so the task gets outsourced to specialised crews.
We’ve done our share of manual unloading. It’s a serious workout, and it’s not a trivial task for robots either. Boxes get deformed in transit, they get wedged into corners, and the SKU mix often has to be sorted on the way out.
But look at this one taking a break halfway through a container. So elegant.
For the record, our robots don’t take breaks.
